2019 Pawsey Summer Internships: Call for students is now open!

Great students – World-class infrastructure – Challenging projects

Applications for the 2019-2020 Pawsey Supercomputing Centre Summer Internship program are now open!  Students from all fields and disciplines are encouraged to apply.

Applications close on the 20th September.

What students learn?

The goal of the Pawsey Summer Internship program is to enable undergraduate students to develop skills in computational science by giving them the opportunity to immerse themselves in advanced computing research projects.

We will provide access to high-performance computing, visualization facilities, large-scale data storage and high-speed communications along with expert help to make the best use of technology. Researchers at Pawsey Partner institutions are submitting an impressive array of projects for students to work on.

The internship program includes an intensive induction week. During this week, students will learn the basics of supercomputing, data management and scientific visualization and discuss impacts of those on research now and in the future.

Who will students work with?

Interns are supervised by leading researchers and undertake challenging research projects for those supervisors. Resources are provided by the Pawsey Supercomputing Centre.

Students will also learn from Pawsey Supercomputing Centre staff more about good practices of using Pawsey resources, good practices for poster creation/presentation, techniques for business communication, and more.

Who can apply?

Internships are open to 3rd year and higher undergraduate students (including honours) or Masters’ students at Australian higher education institutions. To be eligible to apply, students must be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or an international student who has full work rights for duration (does not require visa sponsorship).

Applicants cannot have held a Pawsey Supercomputing Centre Summer Internship in the past. Students must be available for the whole internship period (no part funding).

Student applications will be assessed on the individual student’s merit.
