Is AI transforming pediatric care
Researchers at The University of Western Australia and the Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation‘s are using generative AI to help healthcare practitioners by streamlining administrative tasks, improving access to information, and ultimately enhancing overall patient care.
In 2022, they initiated a program that delivers conversational SMS messages to parents about their child’s post-operative recovery. The trial focused on data collection methods, but as a positive side effect, parents expressed a greater sense of connectedness with the hospital.
With future advances in generative AI and a potential for robotic-assisted pre-op assessments, the team is reimagining the future of child and adolescent medicine. All under the guidance of Professor Britta Regli-von Ungern-Sternberg, winner of the 2024 Prime Minister’s Prize for Science
