Pawsey Friday: Prof. Dave Edwards: The challenge of big data genomics
3:00pm - 5:00pm
Pawsey Fridays are opportunities to get to know users and Pawsey experts.
Next Pawsey Friday is taking place on Friday 30th November, this time showcasing the research of Professor Dave Edwards from the University of Western Australia.
The challenge of big data genomics
The increased parallelisation of DNA sequencing technology has led to an explosion of data for a wide range of species at an ever reducing cost. While providing unprecedented insights into biology, evolution and medicine, the management and analysis of this data is a huge challenge, particularly for non-human species. The Applied Bioinformatics group at UWA focusses on the integration and analysis of large scale genomic data, working with crop breeders to accelerate the production of advanced climate resilient varieties as well as understanding the structure, function and evolution of diverse and complex genomes.
This presentation will be followed by a brief Pawsey update from staff and Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) update by CSIRO staff.
A sundowner session will also take place where a selection of drinks and snacks will be available.
