Tech ToGetHER: Big Data. Personal Data. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

8 March 2022
9:30am - 11:30am

As part of International Women’s Day, Edith Cowan University is inviting girls in Years 10, 11, or 12 to join us for a day of ‘courses, careers, and connections’.

Big Data. Personal Data. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

How is your personal information being used – every day – and is it ethical? How do you know if a graph you’re being shown is right or even true?

Join this session to learn about data with Pawsey’s Ann Backhaus and the Australian Data Science Education Institute‘s Dr. Linda McIver.

Learn how to protect your personal data and how to be a savvy e-citizen. Through challenges, stories and graphs, you’ll learn how to read data, question data, and tell your own story.

This session will introduce you to the good, the bad and the ugly of data. Only around 20% of Australians are data literate. That’s low, especially considering many jobs of the future will need people to be data literate – be one of those people!

This event will be held in-person at ARRC – 26 Dick Perry Avenue, Kensington WA
