Getting Started with Acacia – 29 July 2026
This introductory session provides an overview of Acacia, Pawsey’s object storage service for research data
Designed for new and prospective users, the course introduces the core concepts of object storage and how Acacia can support research data workflows. Participants will explore the fundamentals of accessing, storing, and managing data in Acacia and be introduced to common approaches for transferring and interacting with data.
The session will include demonstrations and practical examples to help participants become familiar with the platform and understand how Acacia fits into broader research computing workflows.
This session is intended for researchers and project teams who are new to Acacia or planning to use Pawsey data services.
Pre-requisites
Basic Linux/UNIX command-line (Bash) knowledge is recommended (such as the self-paced Unix Carpentries lesson).

- Describe object storage and its benefits
- Set up your Acacia access credentials
- Store, retrieve, and share data using Acacia
- Understand common approaches for transferring and managing data in Acacia
