Pawsey book launch

Please register below to attend the book launch of Joe Pawsey and the Founding of Australian Radio Astronomy.

Event details

đź“… Date: 28 July 2023

⏰ Time: 15:00-17:00

📍 Location: Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre, 1 Bryce Ave, Kensington WA 6151

This open access book is a biography of Joseph L. Pawsey. It examines not only his life but the birth and growth of the field of radio astronomy and the state of science itself in twentieth century Australia.

The book explains how an isolated continent with limited resources grew to be one of the leaders in the study of radio astronomy and the design of instruments to do so.

The Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre now plays a key role in the phenomenal success of the aperture synthesis radio astronomy imaging technique invented by Pawsey’s group, and we hope you will join us to celebrate the launch of the book.  The function will include a series of short talks, including one from Professor Ron Ekers, one of the three authors of the book, with informal networking over refreshments.
