Pawsey Internships: Call for Students

Are you ready to take on an exciting challenge and enhance your skills in computational science and research? Are you eager to gain hands-on experience in cutting-edge research projects? Here’s your chance to join the 2025/2026 Pawsey Summer Internship Program!!!
We are looking for exceptional students ready to give their best to this 10-week, paid Program. Specifically, we are looking for:
- 2nd and 3rd year, and Honours students
- Master’s by research and PhD students

📢 About the Program
- The internship program is conducted remotely, with the possibility for some interns to work on-site depending on the project.
- The Program offers students a paid internship focused on building skills and experience in computational science and research projects.
- During the Program, interns collaborate with national and/or international supervisors and collaborators.
- Interns will receive guidance from Pawsey staff on best practices for using Pawsey resources, creating and presenting videos and posters, and techniques for scientific communication.
- The Internship program includes induction and training sessions covering topics such as supercomputing, data management, and scientific visualization.
- Interns will be supported by Intern Mentors and will have the opportunity to form a Community of Practice with fellow interns.
📢 Duration & Pay
The paid Internship Program lasts for 10 weeks, over the course of 12 weeks (24th November 2025- 13th February 2026). There is a 2-week shutdown at the end of the year.
📢 Pawsey’s Expectations
As a condition of award, Pawsey Interns are expected to:
- Be available for the entire duration of the Internship Program (Working full-time Monday to Friday)
- Attend the training series throughout the internship (This will be remote and/or in-person. If in-person Pawsey will fund your travel and accommodation).
- Make satisfactory progress across the internship period, submitting short weekly updates.
- Submit a project poster, short report, and video at the end of the internship.
- Participate fully each day, and in the Pawsey Friday event (13 February 2026)
- Answer fellow interns’ posted questions as/when possible, creating a collegial Internship atmosphere.
📢 Requirements
- Applicants MUST be currently enrolled in an Australian university, either in an undergraduate program, a Master’s by research program, or a PhD program.
- If you are a PhD candidate, you MUST ensure that you are eligible to apply for a paid internship and are available FULL TIME to complete the internship.
- Successful applicants will be required to complete a National Police Check (NPC).
- Vacation students must be Australian citizens or Permanent Residents OR must have an appropriate visa issued by the Department of Immigration. You must be attending an Australian University.
- Only students who have NOT participated previously in a Pawsey Summer Internship Program are eligible to apply, UNLESS you are applying for the Intern Mentor positions.

- September – Shortlisted Interns Notified
- September/October – CSIRO Recruitment and Administration
- 24 November 2025 – Internship Starts
- 13 February 2026 – Internship Finishes (Reports & Videos due 2 weeks after completion)

The Application
Applicants will rank their preferred project choices. While we make every effort to match a student with a top preference, sometimes students may be invited to participate on a different project. An indicative listing of projects can be accessed from the application page. This list is not exhaustive.
Applicants will be assessed on several criteria, including the matching of their skills to specific project skills & location requirements (if any).
