The Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre is proud to sponsor and lead a delegation of nine talented Australian students and two mentors attending the prestigious 14th International High Performance Computing (HPC) Summer School in Kobe, Japan, from July 7th to 12th, 2024.
These students, representing six universities across Australia (Australian National University, University of Adelaide, Curtin University, University of Melbourne, Monash University, and Queensland University of Technology), will have the opportunity to learn from leading experts in the field of HPC and Big Data Analytics.
The 2024 summer school is sponsored by RIKEN (Japan), the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (Europe) via the HPC SPECTRA project, Pawsey (Australia), the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (USA) and the Texas Advanced Computing Center (USA). Additional sponsors, who will conduct separate, internal selection processes, include EPCC (UK) and NICIS CHPC (South Africa) and it welcomes over 80 students every year.
The students participating in this immersive HPC experience will have the opportunity to:
- Gain in-depth knowledge of cutting-edge HPC and Big Data techniques.
- Network with peers and mentors from across the globe.
- Develop advanced skills in areas crucial for scientific research.
- Explore career opportunities in the ever-growing field of HPC.
Two experienced members of Team Pawsey will guide the Australian delegation: Dr Maciej Cytowski, Head of Scientific Services, and Dr Sarah Beecroft, Supercomputing Specialist. Their expertise and guidance will ensure that all the students get the most out of the summer school experience.
This year the conference focuses on two tracks, an introduction to shared-memory parallelism and accelerator programming and advanced distributed-memory programming. Additional topics including machine learning, big data analytics, scientific visualisation, performance analysis, software engineering, numerical libraries and more are also available to all participants.
