Harmony Day 2024 @ Pawsey: Everyone Belongs! July 2024

We’re receiving great response to Harmony Day… So, we’re having another! Join us in July!

Whether you’re interested in black holes or quokkas or self-driving cars or quantum – Everyone Belongs @ Pawsey! 🧪🔬📚

Join us on 31 July 2024 to learn about the many cool types of research and science being done at Pawsey.

You’ll also meet Setonix, Pawsey’s main supercomputer – the most powerful public science supercomputer in the Southern Hemisphere (and 25th most powerful in the world)!

Who is invited? 

Teachers and students in Years 9, 10, 11 and/or 12.  The event is capped at 50 participants per session. We suggest that for each 10 students you bring, 1 teacher / adult accompanies.

When is it? 

July 31, 2024. You can choose to come at one of the following times:

• Morning session: 9:00-11:30 am. Please arrive by 8:45 am for a 9:00 am start.
• Afternoon session: 12 noon-2:30pm. Please arrive at 11:45 am for a 12:00 noon start.

How much does it cost? It’s free!

What is it? 

This is a Harmony Day celebration. The 2024 theme is Everyone Belongs – a fitting theme for Pawsey’s many varied researchers and their science. Pawsey staff are also from some 17 countries around the world!

• Meet the Setonix supercomputer and check out Pawsey’s state-of-the-art Visualisation Lab
•  Cryptography through the Ages activity
  • The battle between code makers and code breakers goes back thousands of years and is of even greater importance to the security of information in our technological age. In this workshop you learn the basics of cryptography and will apply deciphering techniques to crack secret messages. This workshop will provide students with the foundational knowledge and skills that could lead to a career in cybersecurity.
