Pawsey Internships: Call for Students

The Call for Pawsey Intern Applications is closed. Return in May/June 2023 to learn about Internship Opportunities!

The call for 2022/23 Pawsey Summer Interns is now EXTENDED to Monday, 5 September 17:00 AWST!

We invite talented students ready to challenge themselves to apply to the 2022/2023 Pawsey Summer Internship Program.

We’re looking for exceptional students ready to give their best to this 10-week, paid Program. Specifically, we’re looking for:

  • 2nd and 3rd year, and Honours students

An indicative list of projects and requirements can be found using this CSIRO application page, where you will also find a link to apply.

Applications close on Monday, August 29 at 17:00 AWST.  NEW – Extended until September 5 at 17:00 AWST.

The Program

This Program offers students a paid internship focused on building skills and experience in computational science and research projects.

During the Program, interns work alongside national and/or international supervisors and collaborators.

Interns will also learn from Pawsey staff about good practices of using Pawsey resources, good practices for video and poster creation & presentation, techniques for scientific communication, and more.

The Internship program includes (virtual) induction trainings. Through these trainings, interns learn more about supercomputing, data management and scientific visualization. With the support of Intern Mentors, interns will also form a Community of Practice with other interns.

Duration & Pay

The paid Internship Program lasts for 10 weeks, over the course of 12 weeks (November 21, 2022 > February 11, 2023).  There is a 2-week shutdown at the end of the year.

The Internship Projects

Applicants will rank their preferred project choices. While we make every effort to match a student with a top preference, sometimes students may be invited to participate on a different project. An indicative listing of projects can be accessed from the application page. This list is not exhaustive.

Applicants will be assessed on several criteria, including the matching of their skills to specific project skills & location requirements (if any).
