ISC17 Frankfurt; a stage for Australia’s Big Science

ISC17 is an annual international conference for high-performance computing, networking and storage.  This year, with a record-breaking 11,000 people attended, and 339 exhibition booths, ISC is key for learning, sharing knowledge and creating relationships from all around the world.

Our staff attended some extremely insightful and interesting talks, and they also were able to present alongside some key players in the industry as well as leaders at the CSIRO.
Some key highlights they came away with from ISC was (were):

  • Having the opportunity to speak to hundreds of people from around the world about Pawsey and its services and giving away Pawsey kangaroos!
  • The HPC Innovation Forum sponsored by Cray was a great collection of presentations by supercomputing centres and vendors
  • The IBM Q Quantum Computing talk was useful to get a realistic view of the current state-of-the-art in terms of quantum computing as it is going to be a disruptive technology

The Pawsey booth attracted hundreds of visitors who learned about Pawsey’s state-of-the-art infrastructure and research projects. The Centre’s favourite part of the event was handing out stuffed Kangaroos for attendees to adopt, more than 260 Kangaroos found a new place to call home. Attendees had the opportunity to show Pawsey the new environment their Kangaroos were in via social media for a chance to win a prize.
