Supporting Australia’s quantum computing future

Pawsey’s Executive Director, Mark Stickells, has joined a team of expert advisors on a national advisory committee, led by Chief Scientist Cathy Foley AO, committed to unlocking Australia’s quantum capability across research, industry and government sectors.

Industry and Science Minister, Hon Ed Husic MP recently announced a new National Quantum Advisory Committee, a board of 15 commercial and scientific leaders who will assist the Chief Scientist in delivering a national quantum strategy by the end of 2022.

Pawsey recently installed a world-first quantum computing system in a supercomputing centre, which will be used to demonstrate and test hybrid models of quantum and classical computing, by pairing the quantum accelerator with Setonix, Pawsey’s new state-of-the-art HPE Cray Ex supercomputer, Setonix.

The Centre also supports a pioneering quantum education and research program, which enables students to access one of the first educational quantum computers in Australia.

The team at Pawsey is proud to support Australia’s quantum community and contribute to the development and implementation of such an important and potentially transformative national economic and technology strategy.
